Data of 42,000 health professionals for sale in conference scam
EXCLUSIVE| A major global health conference is at the centre of a scam involving the data of its attendees.
In an email sent to Asia Markets, the ‘data list’ of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMMS) conference is offered for sale.
The sender, operating under the name of ‘Anna Jones’, says they have the data of 42,526 contacts.
The asking price for the data is $1,989.
It is not yet known how widely the email has been distributed or whether the sender genuinely has access to the conference’s data list.
Conference organisers have told Asia Markets it had nothing to do with the email.
“Thank you for bringing this to our attention,” they said. “Please be advised that it is not an official HIMSS list.”
The HIMSS conference is scheduled to begin in Chicago on April 17 and will run for four days. Its website says more than 40,000 health professionals will attend.
