India markets crash amid Covid-19 crisis

NEW DEHLI: Indian markets have dropped 1.5% amid growing concerns over the country’s worsening Covid-19 crisis.

A concerning 103,558 coronavirus cases were recorded on Monday taking the national total to 12.59 million. India now has the third-highest number of cases in the world, behind the United States and Brazil.

The sharp surge in infections has dented investor confidence, with fears of what increased restrictions will do the economy.

The Nifty index ended 1.54 percent lower at 14,637.80, while the Sensex fell 1.74 percent to 49,159.32.
